McCain In Iraq
Thought this was worth a post of its own
Sen. John McCain arrived in Baghdad on Sunday, the U.S. Embassy confirmed, marking his first trip to the war-ravaged nation since becoming the presumed Republican candidate for president.
How many liberals do you think will miss every word of that sentence after the phrase “war-ravaged nation”? They will probably start a new meme saying that this is the first time Senator McCain has ever been to Iraq. I wonder if Nancy Pelosi has been there? We know she has been to Syria.
McCain traveled there with Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, and Joseph Lieberman, I-Connecticut, both of whom serve on the Armed Services Committee with McCain, the committee’s ranking member.
The visit was unannounced for security reasons, but McCain’s office had indicated he planned to go there.
The trip was McCain’s eighth to Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion five years ago.
All three senators are outspoken advocates of the “surge” strategy — sending additional troops to Iraq — and McCain has credited the strategy with reported dips in violence there.
Of course, CNN feels the need to “wonder” whether this is just a photo op, as surely the Left-o-sphere will
McCain’s response has been that members of the Armed Services Committee need to visit Iraq to get a first-hand glimpse of the situation.
I would hazard to say that it is important for federally elected leaders to understand what they are talking about first hand. Maybe Dingy Harry should take a trip to Iraq before the next time he opens his mouth saying the war is lost.
